The men's Wisconsin Badgers and women's Stanford Cardinal sit in familiar territory, atop the 2007 LetsRun.com NCAA PreSeason XC Super Polls.
Both the Badgers and Cardinal were #1 in the rankings the entire 2006 season. The Cardinal went on to win their second straight title. For the Badgers the 2006 season ended in disaster, as Colorado pulled its second upset in three years to take the men's crown.
On the men's side, LetsRun.com viewers expect both Colorado and Oregon to pose a challenge to the Badgers. Colorado is nearly always a factor, but the LetsRun.com viewers give more support to Oregon than the coaches do in their poll. Vin Lananna's Oregon squad was fifth in the nation last year and returns everyone but one from last year's team. Plus it adds 2005 Footlocker Champino AJ Acosta, who redshirted cross country last year, and 2006 Footlocker high school national champ Chad Hall, brother of sub 1 hour half marathoner Ryan.
The men's Arkansas Razorbacks have not won an NCAA XC title sine 2000 but they have won an incredible 33 straight conference titles. Look for number #34 this year as they are unanimous favorites to win the SEC conference.
Women Head coach Peter Tegen has 2 national titles in his 2 years at Stanford. The Cardinal are favored to make it 3.
