Laban Rotich Returns to 2006 Cambridge Classic Mile
Race Press Release

CAMBRIDGE, ONTARIO ---April 6, 2006 --- The phenomenal Kenyan miler, Laban Rotich,  has confirmed he will return to the 2006 Cambridge Classic Mile on
Saturday, June 10th to attempt another sub four minute mile.

A year ago Rotich thrilled a near capacity crowd with a successful assault
on the four minute mile on the crushed brick surface of Galt Collegiate
Institute stopping the clock in 3 minutes 58.9 seconds.  The track was
purposely resurfaced to recreate the Iffley Road track at Oxford University,
the site of Sir Roger Bannister’s historic first sub four minute mile.

The Kenyan’s stunning performance provided a fitting climax to a day long
series of mile events in which children as young as 8 years and adults well
into their 70’s competed over four laps of the oval.

Rotich’s achievement has been hailed as incredible under the conditions. The
1999 IAAF World Indoor 1,500m silver medalist has a best time of 3:47.65 and
is the tenth best performer of all time. For his efforts last year Rotich
walked away with the keys to a brand new car.

This year, however, he will face an extremely tough field which includes
Cambridge’s own Nathan Brannen, who arrived home recently with the
Commonwealth Games 1,500m silver medal in his pocket. Brannen would love to
provide an upset before his hometown fans.

Interest in the Cambridge Classic Mile has increased significantly since its
inception in 2004. The winner of a sub four minute mile in 2006 will win the
keys to a Mercedes-Benz sedan.

Carson and his colleagues at Cambridge Mile Productions have been busy
bringing together local sponsors and are pleased that Brooks Shoes Canada
and Manulife Financial have agreed to share title sponsorship of the event.
Associate sponsors include Run For Life, Langdon Hall and Mercedes-Benz.

Media Partners for the 3rd Cambridge Classic Mile include the Globe and Mail
and The Record newspapers.

As the event continues to grow Carson has also announced that a corporate
mile relay will be held in conjunction with the event.
