National Champion Ryan Hall to run Cow Harbor 10k

Current US Cross Country 12k National Champion Ryan Hall has committed to running at Great Cow Harbor 10k Run presented by North Fork Bank, September 16 in Northport, NY. The prize money race is committed to US Citizens only, with $3,000 first place prize and $5,000 course record bonus for both men and women. The total purse with bonus is $30,000. 

Hall won his national championship this February at New York’s famed Van Cortlandt Park, on a blustery, 17 degree day and a trip to the World Cross Country Championships in Japan.

The twenty three year old Hall won 5,000 meter Championship at 2005 NCCA outdoor championship and won a spot on the 2005 Team USA roster for 2005 World Championships in Helsinki. His personal best for 5000 is 13:16. This will be his first appearance at Cow Harbor. 

Hall will be joined be World Cross Country teammate Patrick Gildea. Gildea a Long Island native, now living in Tennessee, will be making his second appearance at Cow Harbor having begun his professional career at Cow Harbor with a third place finish in 2003.  

TEAM USA Minnesota to send three athletes 

Jason Lehmkuhle, Kristen Nicolini, and Chris Lundstrom from Team USA Minnesota will all be returning to Cow Harbor. All three preformed well at the recent Guidant Heart of Summer 10k in Minnesota. Nicolini finished third 33:45 behind Katie McGregor and Marla Runyan, while Lehmkuhle was second in 29:02 and Lundstrom fourth in that race. 

Lehmkuhle was the winner of the 2003 race here has since gone on to represent the US in 2005 World Championships -Marathon in Helsinki, and 2005 World half marathon teams. Chris Lundstrom is making his third Cow Harbor appearance having finished fourth in 2005 and third in 2003. Kristen Nicolini hampered by injury over the past several seasons will be making her return to Cow Harbor. 

2005 Women’s champion Kim Pawelek will be back to defend her title as will 2004 Men’s Champion Teddy Mitchell. Mitchell has returned every year since the 9/11 tragedy cancelled the race, and his plans to run in it. Newly minted San Francisco Marathon Champion Julia Stamps will back along with Amy Manson.  Tere Stauffer third masters over all at Peachtree July 4th will head the masters group. 

The men’s course record of 28:44 was set in1991 by Jeff Jacobs and has only been seriously challenged when Khalid Khannochi turned in a time of 28:49 in 1994. The women’s course record stands at 32:33
