Alan Culpepper will run the Freescale Austin Invitational Half-Marathon on
Sunday, February 19 as part of his build up for the BAA Boston Marathon in
April, organizers of the Austin event announced yesterday.

He is entered in a special "Invitational Half-Marathon Challenge," matched
against 2006 Chevron-Houston Marathon Champion David Cheruiyot of Kenya and
Aramco Houston and 3M Half-Marathon Champion, Nicodemus Malakwen, also of
Kenya.  Also in the field, will be Bernard Manirakiza of Burundi, who
finished sixth at the 3M Half-Marathon.

"The downhill in Austin seems similar to what the Boston course is like and
I want to see how hard I can go on a course like that," Culpepper said in a
press release.  "I may try to run 4:45's (2:57/km).

The invitational half-marathon is a separate event from the mass Freescale Austin
Half-Marathon which begins on the same starting line as the full marathon.
The invitational begins at the half-marathon mark of the
full marathon and runs to the finish line of the full marathon, ahead of the
marathon field.  It is limited to ten participants.  The invitational
half-marathon begins at 8:00 a.m. while the mass marathon and half-marathon
begin at 7:00 a.m.
