Kenya's Boaz Cheboiywo to Run Cambridge Classic Mile Race Press Release CAMBRIDGE, ONTARIO ---- April 12th, 2006---One of Kenya's premier middle distance runners Boaz Cheboiywo has confirmed his entry in the 2006 Cambridge Classic Mile. The event will be held on the crushed brick track at Galt Collegiate Institute, Ontario's oldest school, Saturday June 10th. An extremely versatile athlete, Cheboiywo was a superb collegiate runner, winning NCAA titles in cross country and in the 10,000m for Eastern Michigan University. He has also run 3:35.20 for 1,500m which is roughly equivalent to a 3:53 mile. Last weekend the 27 year old finished 2nd in an outstanding field at the Carlsbad 5km road race confirming his winter training has gone extremely well. The 5'3” Cheboiywo joins compatriot Laban Rotich, last year's winner, in the Cambridge Classic Mile. The pair will be challenged by Cambridge's own Nathan Brannen, who recently claimed a Commonwealth Games 1,500m silver medal in Melbourne, Australia. The keys to a Mercedes Benz sedan await the winner should he achieve a sub four minute mile. Last year Rotich recorded a winning time of 3:58.9 despite running half the race on his own. That shouldn't be the case this year with a quality field guaranteed. Carson and his colleagues at Cambridge Mile Productions are pleased that Brooks Shoes Canada and Manulife Financial will share title sponsorship ofthe event. Associate sponsors include Run For Life, Langdon Hall and Mercedes-Benz. Media Partners for the 3rd Cambridge Classic Mile include the Globe and Mail and The Record newspapers. As the event continues to grow Carson has also announced that a corporate mile relay will be held in conjunction with the event.
