2005 LetsRun.com PreSeason* Super 10 NCAA XC Polls
September 20, 2005
LetsRun.com

The Wisconsin men and Colorado women sit atop the preseason* 2005 LetsRun.com Super Collegiate Cross-Country Polls.

Heading into NCAAs last year, the Wisconsin Badgers were heavy, heavy favorites on the men's side but the Colorado Buffaloes pulled the stunning upset to steal the crown by the narrowest of margins (4 points). This year, the Badgers and Buffaloes are atop the rankings again, with Wisconsin as the heavy favorite receiving nearly five times the first place votes of Colorado (this differs with the United States Cross Country Coaches Association (USCCCA) Poll which has Wisconsin, Colorado, and Arkansas only separated by the narrowest of margins.)

The LetsRun.com preseason voters agree with the USCCCA voters on which teams are the top 10 in the country, although they differ on the order of the ten. The biggest loser in the LetsRun.com polls is BYU which is only 7th in the LetsRun.com Polls, while being slated for the final podium spot in the USCCCA polls (4th).

On the women's side, the Colorado Buffaloes are comfortably on top receiving twice as many first place votes as #2 Duke.  This is in contrast to the women's coaches' preseason poll (Finishlynx) where Duke received more first place votes than Colorado but was still ranked #2.

The two big gainers on the women's side compared to the Finishlynx poll are Arkansas and North Carolina, which are #8 and #10 in the LetsRun.com Super Poll, respectively, while only #17 and #26 in the FinishLynx Poll.

In the conference voting, most of the conferences have a heavy favorite. Arkansas is a heavy favorite in the SEC on the men's side. This isn't unexpected as a win would be their 32nd straight conference XC crown, one of the most incredible streaks in the history of NCAA sports. Not every conference looks like a blowout as the Pac 10s on the men's side is expected to be a tight duel between the slightly favored Stanford Cardinal and Arizona Wildcats.

The LetsRun.com Super Polls are conducted by letting the highly educated viewers of LetsRun.com select their top 10 teams in the country on the men's and women's side. First place votes are worth 10 points, 10th place votes 1 point in the national polls. The LetsRun.com Super 10 and Conference Rankings are below.

The LetsRun.com Super Polls will be conducted 4 more times this year:
(approximate dates)

*September 26th-October 1 (with regional rankings)
*October 10-14 prior to Pre-NCAAs
just national voting
*October 20-27 post-PreNCAAs, prior to Conferences
conference & national voting
*Nov 7-11 (prior to Regionals)
regional voting & national voting
*Nov 15-20 (prior to NCAAs)

Notes: * we realize the season is already underway but the meets up until this point have been of little consequence. The season really gets underway this weekend.
