New Alliance New Haven Road Race: Abdi Abdirahman Sets U.S. 20 km record, Blake Russell Dominates USA 20 km Championships
Sadly Abdi ran off course or his American record time would be even faster. Making sure the runners run on an accurate, measured course should be the #1 priority of a race. Perhaps we should start a directory of races that offer some sort of guarantee not only of an accurate course but accurate mile markers, although Abdi was the only one to go off course. *New Haven Road Race Results *Photo of Abdi Park Forest 10: Alene Amere, (Alene Reta, Amara Leta,), Wins His real name is Alene Emere Reta (thanks to David Monti at Race Results Weekly for this info). He raced in 2001 as Alene Emere but wants to be known as Alene Rete. He's the same guy who served a drug suspension but then tried to run under a false name, Amara Leta, at this year's Peachtree and was DQd.

Sunday's Golden League Meet: *Recap IAAF *Results Lebedeva Wins $1 Million Jackpot, Lagat 12:59.29 In the anticipated 5k, Bernard Lagat ran a 53.41 final lap to destroy the field winning in 12:59.29. He came up short of Bob Kennedy's American record 12:58.21, but after watching Lagat's run on Sunday his future appears to be at 5k and the record may be gone soon. Alan Webb stayed with the leaders until the final lap (running a very impressive 13:10) and Adam Goucher never was a factor as his hot or cold 2005 continued. The meet overall was lacking in star power as some athletes prepared for next week's World Athletics Final (when the meet recap focusses heavily on the javelin you know this to be the case), but Lebedeva picked up the $1 million Golden League prize by winning the triple jump by only 3 centimeters. *Lagat, Komen in Impress in Berlin (Lagat Runs 12:59 for 5k) Lagat says, "This was just a test I am remaining a miler." *Lebedeva

Yesterday's Quote of the Day: "It's hard to explain without going into detail, but if you
look at it historically, the worse the performance-enhancing drug
problem became, the worse America did internationally, overall. They
didn't fare as well under the system that existed before 2000, when
there really wasn't much testing. It's my personal belief that now they
will fare much better." -Frank Shorter, Olympic gold medallist in the marathon.

More
isn't always better:
"I had over-trained. I put too much pressure on myself because I wanted
that gold medal too much. If I had trained 15 per cent less, I would
have won. I was training like a crazy person. There was a lack of
self-confidence and a lack of maturity. An athlete does not only train
with his body. He trains with his mind."
