LetsRun.com 2005 NCAA XC Prediction Contest Recap The competition was fierce but in the end, two people emerged as winners of the LetsRun.com NCAA Cross Country Prediction Contest and $100 gift certificates from RoadRunner Sports. Tom Stevenson , a 48 year old former (gasp) sprinter and jumper, who lives in Delaware won the team prediction contest. He gives credit to his predictions for the excellent coverage of the top collegiate programs from chasingtradition.com, and picking Illinois to finish in the top 10 because he got his PHd there. We however give all the credit to the fact he has a PHd. 5, 6, or 7 years of graduate school had better make you smart, right? The other winner who won the individual picking contest and the mythical "overall" contest, is a first for letsrun.com, a person who will continue to remain anonymous. The winner, Beat Train, posted his own NCAA polls on the letsrun.com message boards where he wished to remain anonymous. Since he won our contest, we'll honor his wish. We will say he is a former male cross country All-American from a Big East school. Stevenson and The Beat deserved to emerge on top. Stevenson, who won the team contest, picked Wisconsin and Arkansas on the men's side in the correct order and 9 of the top 10 teams. On the women's side he also picked 9 of the top 10, and in addition picked upset winner Stanford. But clearly the top picker of the contest was the overall winner, The Beat. Maybe we should feature his polls on our site next year, as he picked all 4 winners, the men's and women's individual winners, and the men's and women's team winners. He won the $100 gift certificate for winning the individual contest where he picked 6 of the top 10 on the women's side, including the top 2 in perfect order, and 7 of the top 10 on the men's side including the winner, Simon Bairu. We thank all of you for participating. Click here if you want to view the results of the contest.
