Head of NASDAQ, Greifeld Named Chairman
of USA Track & Field
Foundation NEW YORK – Robert Greifeld, the President and CEO of The NASDAQ Stock Market (NASDAQ), has been named Chairman of the USA Track & Field Foundation, USA Track & Field announced Tuesday. An avid runner, Greifeld has a 15-year track record of successfully running efficient, for-profit businesses and has extensive experience in all areas of the markets. Greifeld joined NASDAQ on May 12, 2003. Since joining the world’s largest electronic stock market, Greifeld has announced a refocused business mission for NASDAQ, one focused first on the being the predominant U.S. equity market. He has expanded the functionality of NASDAQ’s trading systems to benefit investors and expanded the market’s sales presence. Recently, Greifeld oversaw the launch of NASDAQ’s dual listing program, the first of its kind in the industry. Greifeld is credited with creating BRUT, one of the earliest Electronic Communications Networks (ECN), having won approval from the SEC in 1998. In addition, while serving as President Chief Operating Officer of Automated Securities Clearance, Inc. (ASC) from 1991-1999, Mr. Greifeld led the team that created BRASS and made it the industry standard trade order management system for NASDAQ stocks. Prior to joining NASDAQ, Mr. Greifeld was an Executive Vice President with SunGard Data Systems Inc., a $6.2 billion market cap company. Greifeld is a frequent speaker on key issues impacting the capital markets. “To have a business leader of Bob Greifeld’s stature as the chairman of our Foundation is a tremendous achievement for the sport of track & field,” USATF CEO Craig A. We look forward to working together with Bob.” As chairman of the USA Track & Field Foundation, Greifeld will spearhead the formation of a Foundation Board of the Directors, leading fund-raising efforts and program development. Greifeld is an experienced runner and has completed four marathons, including the Jacksonville Marathon, the Philadelphia Marathon and the National Capital Race marathon in Ottawa, Canada. Officially launched December 5, 2002, at USATF's Annual Meeting, the USA Track & Field Foundation provides a means to attract and guide funds to new and innovative track & field programs and expand involvement in the sport.
