RunnersWorld Uncovers Drug Cover-Ups and Rojo's One of Them

From wire reports:

April 1, 2002 -  Indianapolis, Indiana – The names of the 15 drug cheats that USATF has been suppressing for two years since the Sydney Olympics were released today in an exposé uncovered by Runnersworld magazine.  All 15 athletes who tested positive but had previously remained anonymous were revealed in the piece that is appearing on today’s web-version of the magazine - Runnersworld.com -today.

The exposé is just the latest of a long string of successful scoops for Runnersworld magazine which has established itself over the last few years as the number one investigative sports magazine in the world.  Other recent successful hard-hitting exposés by Runnersworld have included – “It’s Possible To Walk a Marathon Without Getting Injured” and “Scandal of the Century – Runnersworld Discovers Its Own Covergirls/guys Are Models/Not Runners”.

One of the notable positive cover-ups that was revealed today belonged to LetsRun.com co-founder Robert Johnson.  LetsRun.com is the nation’s premier unmonitored running web-site.

“It’s a total disgrace that Robert’s positive was covered up. However, it certainly doesn’t come as a big surprise.  It just shows why the American media is ridiculously soft on the drug front and never raises any difficult questions – they’re sleeping with the enemy,” said world anti-doping chief Dick Pound, a long-time vocal critic of USATF’s cover-up.

“It’s really a total disgrace that clearly reveals just how dirty the American athletes are.  I mean give me a break.  They have guys doped to the gill who can barely run within 5 minutes of the women’s marathon world record.  It’s really quite sad and pathetic.”

In a statement released by his attorney,Robert claimed there was a reason why his testosterone came in 20 times over the legal limit.  “Dennis Mitchell doesn’t have anything on me.  I would never resort to using illegal substances even though it is my life-long goal to be my brother.”

At a hastily called press conference today here in Indianapolis, Craig Masback, CEO of USATF, defended his organization’s role in the cover-up. “You really need to try to understand that we have great intentions.  We are trying to save a sport that’s already dead in America.  If news of these positive tests had come out two years ago, we would have been dealt a blow that would have been tough to survive. Instead of having our meets televised in the middle of the night two weeks after they take place, we probably wouldn’t get them televised at all.”
