Women's 5km at 2001 USATF Nationals

The women's 5k featured legally blind Marla Runyan leading nearly the entire race and at the finish when it counted most.  Runyan tried to pull away to put the kick of Regina Jacobs out of reach. Jacobs already had won the 800 and 1500 at the nationals and despite a blistering last lap had to settle for 2nd behind Runyan.

American record holder at 4 miles on the roads Elva Dryer got 3rd while former AR holder at 5k Amy Rudolph finished 4th.  She'll get to run at the world champs if Regina decides not to run the 5k.
